Helping the UnderprivilegedDisabledElderly

The IMASA Johannesburg Branch comprises of an Executive Committee and working committees coordinating various local projects in Gauteng.  It also serves as the core office linked to the IMASA Sub-Branches in the surrounding areas, ie; Tshwane Branch, Westrand Branch, Eastrand Branch, Polokwane & Highveld Branch.

Having branched out when IMASA was officially established in KZN, 40+ years ago, we have grown progressively with the support and guidance of stalwarts who were from the founding members of the organization. Over the years many new members in Gauteng were recruited and became actively involved in achieving the aims and objectives of IMASA. They have become the driving forces behind projects such as; the Cataract Project, Primary Healthcare & Mobile Clinics, Free Medical Screening Programmes, the Ruya Project, Outreach Programmes, Continuous Medical Educational Programmes and more.

IMASA gives us a platform to host medical programmes and conferences of high-quality standards, with international speakers and we are able to tap into our very own membership, discovering local speakers of a phenomenal calibre and great knowledge. An added advantage is the support of our Ulema, making our platforms completely unique from any other medical programmes. The jewels and naseehaat [advices] shared have enhanced the programmes leaving our membership feeling spiritually uplifted.

The branch is passionate about offering FREE medical screening to the disadvantaged and has provided these services to thousands over the years with the assistance of members who sacrifice their time on a voluntary basis. We have formed a strong partnership with our students from the WITS, Johannesburg and Pretoria Universities who play a major role at our screenings and benefit from the practical and mentor aspect of the project. The elderly and orphans have lately been our focus during the Covid period as many of our annual screening programmes have been put on hold.  We hope to revive these screenings in the near future Inshaa Allah. Our medical support includes assisting religious leaders [Imaams, Appas, Muathins and their immediate families] with free or reduced rates towards medical advice and consultations from members within the organization.

Empowerment training programmes such as AED/CPR and First Aid were initiated in 2013 and is an ongoing project.

The Branch continues to assist families in need of Caregivers both for short-term and long-term need for both Covid and Non-covid patients. We are also able to assist with medical equipment from our storage unit and by actively networking with NGOs like Fountains of Inspiration and FMYO to ensure that families’ needs are met. Our voluntary services, offered to the public, has since the Covid pandemic, been temporarily suspended in the interest of keeping our volunteer caregivers and patients they see, safe.

IMASA Johannesburg Branch has always been inclusive of all medical faculties and we have found that the participation and dedication specifically from our Allied Members plays a major factor in the success of the Branch.

Having access to and networking with Specialists and Allied Health Professionals has broadened our scope of services provided.

Since the inception of Covid19, many families and the economy were severely impacted. Breadwinners became unemployed, families were left destitute and many went hungry.

The Muslims in our community stood united in fighting the pandemic and at the same time taking care of the helpless and vulnerable.

Alhumdulillah, through the efforts and guidance of Maulanaa Moeneeb Martin, the Branch partnered with many sister organizations and offered daily meals and food hampers to those in need. This is an ongoing project overseen by Maulaana and we would like to thank all our donors who has been supporting this initiative.

We make dua all our efforts are accepted by Allah SWT for His pleasure only and that He utilizes as his tools of service to the do His work and help those who are unable to help themselves. We also encourage our fellow colleagues in the medical fraternity to step forward and become the proud flag bearers of this organization. We are blessed to have been chosen for this work and through IMASA you are able to give back to mankind and attain your Jannah Inshaa Allah.
