IMASA Port Elizabeth
In 2019, the dormant IMASA Port Elizabeth Branch was revived and today, we have more than 70 Muslim healthcare workers affiliated to this Branch. In our first year, we participated in a successful Health Awareness Day held at the Malabar Community Centre involving a broad spectrum of healthcare workers including alternative medicine and pathology laboratories assisting with sugar and cholesterol testing. Community members queued from 6am that morning eagerly awaiting this service.
Our inaugural CME activity took place in October 2019 with more than 50 attendees to an educational program held at the historic South End Museum. Five branch members from Cape Town travelled to Port Elizabeth, delivered excellent talks and elaborated on the services of IMASA. In 2020, we started our local Branch Facebook page, imaportelizabeth, as a means of spreading information and to showcase our activities to the wider community.
Many projects were born from 2019 to date and the impact of Covid19 kept us determined and actively involved in fighting the pandemic.
In addition to this the relationship of trust that has developed between our local IMASA branch and the EC DOH, has led to advancements in the provision of halaal meals to Muslim patients admitted in public hospitals.
The IMASA Port Elizabeth Branch, endeavours to play their part within this organization and we are appealing to our local Healthcare Workers in the Eastern Cape to become members and help us make a difference.
Handover Ceremony
On Thursday, September 28, 2023, an official handover ceremony took place for the mobile clinic sponsored by the South African Muslim Charitable Trust (SAMCT). This clinic, donated to the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa-IMASA was relocated to Port Elizabeth in February 2023.
The handover event was attended by the SAMCT trustees, as well as representatives from IMASA Port Elizabeth Branch, Al Fidaa, and the Department of Health (DOH).
We would like to express our utmost gratitude for this incredibly generous contribution, which we believe will greatly benefit the people of Port Elizabeth and the surrounding areas.
We also want to acknowledge the invaluable partnership and assistance of Al Fidaa. ALHUMDULILLAH
We sincerely pray that Allah rewards all those who made this possible and that this mobile clinic becomes a means to assist all communities, solely for His pleasure.
