Ebrahim Moola
Student of the Year 2024
My name is Ebrahim Moola, and I am a 5th year medical student at Wits. I have been awarded numerous Dean’s Merit List Awards and have served as the Head of Skills at the Wits Students Surgical Society, where I contributed to enhancing surgical training opportunities for my peers.
One of my proudest achievements was being awarded the Abe Bailey Bursary, allowing me to represent Wits on a political and cultural tour of England and Scotland—a transformative experience that broadened my leadership perspective. My involvement with organizations like the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) has also had a profound impact on my life. Volunteering at free health screenings helped me refine my clinical skills, improve patient interactions, and gain a deeper appreciation for community service.
These experiences humbled me and reinforced my passion for serving others. The lectures and networking opportunities provided by IMASA have further enriched my medical education, allowing me to form lasting friendships and connections with like-minded individuals. Currently, I also serve as one of the Wits Representatives of SIMASA. Grounded in humility and driven by a passion for making a difference, I aspire to continue growing as a compassionate and skilled future doctor, committed to both academic excellence and the betterment of my community.

My name is Ridwaan Khan. Treasurer of the Students of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (SIMASA), I've always been driven by a strong sense of altruism.
At my core, I’m committed to serving others and making a positive impact in my community.My involvement with IMASA has been instrumental in shaping my experiences and growth. Through this organization, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in various initiatives that have broadened my perspective and deepened my connection with others.
IMASA has provided me with a platform to combine my passion for medicine with my commitment to serving others, allowing me to make a meaningful impact in my community in Bloemfontein.I’m grateful for the experiences and lessons I’ve gained through IMASA, and I look forward to continuing to serve and make a positive difference in the lives of those around me.

My name is Mudassir Ali Sayed, currently a dentistry student at the University of Pretoria.
IMASA has played a crucial role in order for me to give back to communities with the blessing of Allah (SWT) which is the degree I’m studying towards. One would expect that going on an outreach would render one exhausted however after seeing the many smiles and the multiple interactions between people of diverse backgrounds it makes you ponder on the glory of Allah (SWT) and thank Allah ﷻ for the immense blessing that Allah (SWT) has bestowed upon me.I owe my introduction to IMASA to a dear friend Dr Tahir Makda who opened the world of IMASA to me, where I have met countless mentors and learned multiple traits from every single person I have interacted with within IMASA.
An important aspect that IMASA allows me to continuously take forth is that of Khidmat al Khalq (Service to creation) which is an aspect of life that I have a passion for.I am extremely humbled and honored that the student of the year is awarded to me however it is not without the support of everyone within IMASA.
