Paint and Sip for a Purpose: Celebrating Mandela Day with Heart

On Mandela Day, the Carolina Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) joined hands with the Carolina Muslim Community to create something beautiful—both on canvas and in the lives of others.

Their Paint and Sip fundraising event embodied the true spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy, bringing together community members who painted with purpose, supporting the learners at Ulwazi Special Development Center.

The funds raised through this creative gathering enabled the community to organize a special Mandela Birthday celebration for the center’s learners. But the impact extended beyond just one day of festivities. The community used part of the proceeds to purchase meaningful recreational items that would bring ongoing joy—colorful bean bags for comfortable seating, hoops for active play, soccer balls for outdoor fun, and engaging soccer games.

Through brushes and paint, the Carolina IMASA and Muslim Community have painted a brighter future for the children at Ulwazi, proving that when communities come together with intention, even the smallest gestures can create lasting change.

_This is the essence of Mandela Day—67 minutes that ripple into a lifetime of impact._
