IMASA Baytul Nur
Known as the House of Light, is a project initiated by the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA). This project encompasses a variety of essential programs aimed at providing support and care to individuals in need. Some of the major programs offered by IMASA Baytul Nur include Counselling, Premarital Guidance, Care for the Elderly, Muslim Aids Project, Home Based Care Courses, Health Campaigns, and the Mobility Aid Program.
These programs are designed to cater to the needs of the elderly and disabled individuals who require mobility aids such as walkers, commodes, wheelchairs, patient beds, adult and children diapers, and hearing aids.
Frail Care Facility
The establishment of a frail care facility within the Muslim community has been a much-needed and long-awaited development. This facility serves as a crucial option for elders and senior citizens who are ill and lack family support services. While there are numerous facilities that offer nursing and frail care, many of them are operated by different religious groups and do not adequately cater to the specific needs of Muslims.
During the frail care stage, individuals often require extensive nursing care and assistance with daily tasks such as dressing, washing, and toileting. Some may even be bedridden. The primary objective of a frail care centre is to provide comprehensive care for individuals with physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs that cannot be adequately addressed within their own homes.

IMASA Renal Dialysis National Project
The IMASA has successfully established a Renal Dialysis Unit in KZN thanks to the generous support of our donors. This unit was created in response to the overwhelming backlog in public sector dialysis services and the high costs of private facilities for patients without medical aid. State hospitals can only offer dialysis to a limited number of patients who meet strict criteria, leaving many untreated and at risk of death within a few months.
Since November 2007, the IMASA Renal Project has been providing life-saving dialysis treatment to those who do not qualify for state-funded care. In 2017, we proudly opened our own dialysis unit. One unique aspect of our project is that patients are also sponsored to join a medical aid plan.
IMASA National Cataract Project
The Cataract Project is currently active in Gauteng, North West, and Durban, in collaboration with provincial hospitals. State hospitals typically have a waiting period of over a year for cataract surgeries, and this project aims to alleviate the strain on the public healthcare system while enhancing the quality of life for patients.
Specifically targeting disadvantaged communities, the program identifies patients on the waiting lists of state hospitals and also includes private patients in need after a thorough social assessment conducted by IMASA.
IMASA KZN Clinics
A network of primary health care facilities dedicated to serving underserved communities in Malukazi, Braemar, Inchanga, and Marianhill. In addition to our four permanent clinics, we operate two mobile clinics that reach rural areas in Kwa Joli and Inchanga.
Our clinics offer a range of specialised services, including dermatology, dentistry, optometry, and occupational therapy, in addition to primary health care treatment. We are also approved VCT centers, providing HIV/AIDS counselling and testing on a regular basis.
