IMASA DURBAN GIFT OF SIGHT PROJECT 👓👁️✨
Assalamu Alaikum
Jumuah Mubarak
🌸 4th Day of Dhul Hijjah 🌸
IMA DURBAN GIFT OF SIGHT PROJECT 👓👁️✨
As we continue through these blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, days most beloved to Allah ﷻ, we appeal to you to support the IMA Durban Gift of Sight Programme, a project in collaboration with the Caring Sisters Network(CSN). This is a joint Sadaqah Jaariyah initiative restoring sight, dignity, independence and hope.
Through this project we provide:
✨ Comprehensive eye examinations & visual screening
👓 Free / subsidised spectacles
👁️ Free cataract surgeries
🩺 Ongoing eye care for the underprivileged & financially challenged
🌍 A service to ALL communities, ALL races and ALL people in need
🧾 All patients accessing services through this programme — including spectacles, cataract surgery, and general eye care — undergo a social assessment conducted by the in-house IMA Durban social worker. This ensures that services are directed to those most in need, safeguarding the integrity of the programme, ensuring responsible use of funds, and preventing misuse by individuals who are able to access private healthcare services.
📍 IMA Durban Optometry Clinics operate in:
* Malukazi
* Marianhill
* Sherwood
✨ The IMA Optometry Team ✨
is a dedicated professional unit comprising:
* Programme Coordinator
* 2 employed Optometrists
* 4 Optometry Administrative Staff
All working together to ensure continuity, quality care and sustainable service delivery.
Alhamdulillah, in 2025 alone:
👓 752 pairs of spectacles were dispensed
▪️ 434 bifocals
▪️ 318 single vision
■IMA Durban regularly assists other branches nationally with reading spectacles for community screenings. 2025-approx 600 pairs of readers were dispensed at screening days.
👁️ Approximately 150 free cataract surgeries are performed annually through this ongoing programme in Durban attending to patients from as far as Ladysmith and Harding.
These surgeries are performed either at the Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital (AAKH) or at the McCord’s Provincial Eye Hospital.
🤝 We sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the ongoing support of Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital (AAKH), which has adopted and continues to support our IMA Durban Cataract Gift of Sight Project, assisting us in restoring sight and transforming lives through this important initiative.
We are also grateful to McCords Hospital for this partnership.
✨ Taking Vision to the Next Level ✨
Alhamdulillah, new advanced optometric diagnostic equipment has now been installed in the IMA clinics through generous sponsorship from the South African Muslim Charitable Trust (SAMCT), facilitated via CSN.
This now enables advanced screening and early detection of:
▪️ Glaucoma
▪️ Diabetic retinopathy
▪️ Hypertensive eye disease
▪️ Macular degeneration
▪️ Other sight-threatening conditions
🟥 Regular eye examinations ARE Essential — NOT Optional.
In today’s digital world:
▪️ Eye strain
▪️ Dryness
▪️ Blurred vision
▪️ Headaches
are common amongst all age groups.
At our clinics we attend to children from age 5 and above, as well as the elderly.
🤍 A Project Close to the Heart
The IMA Durban / CSN Gift of Sight Programme is coordinated by optometrist, IMA Durban exco member and chairperson of CSN, Yasiera Mahomed-Suliman, who works directly in the field alongside the clinical teams. Her commitment is deeply rooted in witnessing patients regain sight, independence and dignity — a transformation that continues to drive this work.
🤲 A Sadaqah that continues to benefit
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever relieves a believer’s hardship in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment.”
📌 Poor vision is a hardship
📌 Living with a cataract is a hardship
📌 Ocular disease can lead to blindness — and blindness is a hardship
And Allah ﷻ says:
“And whoever saves one life, it is as if he has saved all of mankind.” (Qur’an 5:32)
🌙🕋 On this blessed Jumuah and these sacred days of Dhul Hijjah, support this ongoing Sadaqah Jaariyah.
