Addington Hospital Refurbishment
IMASA Durban Handover Ceremony
On 14 May 2025, the IMASA Durban Branch marked a significant milestone with the official handover of newly refurbished facilities at Addington Hospital — a meaningful investment in the welfare of the hospital’s dedicated healthcare professionals.
The project was initiated by Dr Raeesa Kathrada, who approached IMASA Durban to assist in improving staff facilities. In response, Chairperson of IMASA Durban, Solly Suleman, IMA coordinator Zakiyah Dawood, together with Zaahid Mall of Azcon Projects, conducted a comprehensive site visit and needs assessment, culminating in the successful execution of the refurbishment.
These upgrades reflect a commitment to providing comfort and dignity to frontline health professionals — recognising that better working conditions are integral to the delivery of quality patient care.
Remarks were delivered by:
•Solly Suleman – IMA Durban Branch
•Dr Ndlangisa – CEO, Addington Hospital
•Dr Valli – Junior Doctor Coordinator & Lecturer in Family Medicine
•Dr Muhammed Bhayla – Addington Hospital
This handover stands as a testament to the power of public-private collaboration in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and uplifting those who serve on the frontlines of our health system.
IMA extends its sincere gratitude to all who made this initiative possible. A special word of thanks to Solly Suleman, for his leadership and commitment in driving this project forward. We also thank Dr Raeesa Kathrada for identifying the need and bringing it to our attention, Zakiyah Dawood and Zaahid Mall of Azcon Projects for their hands-on coordination and execution, the Addington Hospital team for their cooperation and support throughout, and all speakers who took the time to share their remarks on the day. It is through the collective effort of individuals like these that initiatives such as this are brought to life.
